I think there are a wide variety of motivations for being interested in shota. :D Certainly you will not get a good example of both sides of the argument here on a pro-Shota forum, but Shota provokes a similar level (but often quieter level) of controversy as lolita because many many people think that it promotes pedophilia.
However, I too have seen canonically "disguise Shota" most famously I'd say Honey-senpai from Ouran. Well depending on your translation, the character's age could've been changed for legal reasons here in the US (as shota has fluxuating legality here in the states and many liscensing and subbing groups fear legal actions).
